In this presentation, first of all, Dr. Li briefly introduces his Japanese monograph:Kukyō ichijō hōshōron to higashiajia bukkyō: Go—nana seiki no nyoraizō, shinnyo, shushō no kenkyū『究竟一乗宝性論』と東アジア仏教 ── 五—七世紀の如来蔵・真如・種姓説の研究, especially the differences between the Sanskrit text and the classical Chinese translation of the Ratnagotravibhāgaśāstra (Chin. Jiujing yisheng baoxing lun 究竟一乘寶性論) and their influence on East Asian Buddhism. After that, he focuses on some examples of the term dhātu in the Sanskrit text of the Ratnagotravibhāgaśāstra and some corresponding Chinese renderings in the Chinese translation of this text. To probe the origin and background of the translation of dhātu in the Ratnagotravibhāgaśāstra, he also mentions relevant paragraphs in the Mahāparinirvāṇa-mahāsūtra (Chin. Daban niepan jing 大般涅槃經) and its classical Chinese translation. Finally, based on the analyses mentioned above, Dr. Li reviews the term dhātu-vāda, a central idea in Critical Buddhism trend of thought.
